About the session

This talk is about using your day job skills to ‘give back’.

I have worked in technology for 20 years - my day job is product development - and I've been involved in ‘giving back’ for more than twelve of those. I get a gentle buzz from helping to get stuff done in work (in an agile way of course) and I've long been interested in helping to improve my neighbourhood.

Once you get going on ‘giving back’, you realise just how transferable your job skills are… and once you really get going, your giving back activity influences your day job, in my case enhancing skills such as research, stakeholder management, inclusivity, talent spotting, delivery, budgeting and product development.

Themes: Strategy, Planning & OKRs, Organisational Resilience, Talent Spotting, M&A (true story - we did this twice), Making an Impact, Collaboration, Effort vs Reward, Metrics, Engagement & Customer Focus, Product & Experience Development, Leadership, Purpose, Responsibility, Life/Work Balance
