About the session

Theme: Happy People | Teams

Give me two truths and lie. Ok, here’s one truth: I don’t enjoy a lot of icebreakers.

Bad icebreakers can make people feel really uncomfortable and can set things off on the wrong foot. However, they can be great when they are done well and are situationally relevant.

A well-placed icebreaker can give everyone a chance to speak, making it easier for them to talk again later; level the playing field and put everyone on an even footing; connect people to the content and to each other; let everyone mentally check into the session and off of emails, and teach the tools you want people to use later.

In this session, we’ll discuss why and when icebreakers are important, how to make them relevant and what to avoid.

Participant takeaways:

  • Examples of approaches that have worked in both in-person and online situations
  • Try out some of these approaches
  • Take away a toolkit of great ways to start your next meeting or workshop.

This session:

  • Includes interaction
  • Has no session cap
